Advocacy@Work POSTPONED after U.S. Capitol Complex Closure

Given the just announced decision to close the U.S. Capitol complex, SHRM will postpone Advocacy@Work.

The Advocacy@Work event was built around a philosophy of LEARNING (how the legislative process works and the impact that policy and legislation have on HR) and APPLYING (how to visit Capitol Hill and advocate effectively to elected officials).  Though we were prepared to deliver on the LEARNING component, Congress has closed public access to the U.S. Capitol, the Senate and House buildings until April 1st.   This will compromise our ability to deliver on the APPLYING aspect of our event.

SHRM adamantly agrees with Speaker Pelosi’s declaration of leading by continuing our vital work.  SHRM had taken the fullest precautions to keep our roughly 200 confirmed attendees healthy and safe. However, for those same attendees to incur registration, travel and lodging expenses to arrive at an event where we can only provide half the value promised is not in keeping with our efforts to be more member-centric and provide the most value for your investment in SHRM.

SHRM understands the challenges and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and appreciates the patience of its members, speakers, vendors and partners. Advocacy@Work registrants will be able to attend the event later this year when it is rescheduled. We will update registrants on the new date for Advocacy@Work as soon as possible.
